English & Music

Play Music and Learn English

Our English & Music programmes are designed for young people aged 12–18 and are based on the “Play Music and Learn English” methodology.
This approach combines structured English language learning with music practice, creating a motivating and effective environment in which students improve their communication skills while developing musical ability.
The programme may include English lessons adapted to age and level, supervised music training sessions (instrumental, vocal, or ensemble-based), and social and cultural activities conducted in English. All activities take place in an international setting, encouraging natural language use, confidence building, and cultural awareness.
Music-Focused Programme
This programme is designed for students and young musicians seeking to enhance their musical skills while developing their English language proficiency.
Our programmes are designed to enable international participants to improve both their English proficiency and musical ability in environments where music and the English language are experienced at a high level, both during sessions and in everyday life.
Integrated Music & English Development
This approach allows participants to integrate structured music training with English language learning through three complementary learning modes, organised within clear and progressive development pathways.
Music acts as both a creative discipline and a communication medium, supporting natural language acquisition through expression, collaboration, and shared experience.
Development Pathways

Different learning pathways combine English and Music to match each student’s interests, goals, and future plans. This structure enables participants to follow a pathway aligned with their personal interests, educational objectives, and artistic development, whether the focus is performance, creativity, cultural exchange, or language growth.

Course Overview

English & Music Education

The English & Music Programme is designed for students who want to strengthen their English language skills while developing practical musical understanding and expression in real-world contexts.
Throughout the programme, participants explore the core values that support creativity and high performance: listening, collaboration, adaptability, discipline, integrity, and clear communication. Learning takes place in a professional, creative, and future-oriented environment that reflects how English and music are used in international education, cultural exchange, and the creative industries.
Students learn to use English as a tool for communication, interpretation, and artistic expression, while living in an international environment that brings together young people from around the world. This immersive experience helps them build confidence, share ideas, and form meaningful cross-cultural connections through music.
All participants are supported and guided by experienced educators and music professionals. Sessions develop the four core language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—and apply them directly through music-based, project-focused activities.
The programme emphasises learning by doing. Students practise, create, perform, and reflect through interactive tasks such as ensemble work, songwriting, musical interpretation, performance preparation, and collaborative creative challenges. English is learned through experience, interaction, and artistic application in an international setting.
By combining language development with musical practice, the programme prepares students to communicate confidently, express themselves creatively, and engage effectively in a global, culturally connected world.

General English Course Highlights

Students usually attend classes in the morning, following the same structure as a General English course. The programme includes 15 hours of English per week, held Monday to Friday, and is organised into two 90-minute lessons per day. Classes are limited to a maximum of 15 students, ensuring a focused and supportive learning environment. Courses are available at all levels, from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1). Each class is taught by two teachers, who work alternately and cover different, pre-arranged areas of the syllabus. The first 90-minute session focuses on language in use, with emphasis on vocabulary development and grammar practice. After a short break, the second teacher leads the next 90-minute session, concentrating on conversational skills, including pronunciation, listening, and speaking. This shared teaching approach provides variety, exposes students to different teaching styles and personalities, and enhances overall engagement. All teaching staff are university graduates and hold recognised TEFL qualifications, ensuring high academic and professional standards.

All staff with ED are committed to providing students with the highest standard of education during their stay. We encourage and inspire students to work consistently and purposefully to improve in all aspects of the English language.

Our experienced teaching staff are highly qualified and thoroughly trained in their field. They remain up to date with the latest methodologies in teaching English as a foreign language and combine academic excellence with a sensitive and responsive approach to each student’s individual needs, talents, and potential.

All teachers are university graduates and hold recognised qualifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). They are respected for their expertise, professionalism, and dedication to student development.

Classes run from 09:30 to 13:00, with a 30-minute break at 11:00. After classes, students have a 60-minute lunch break. In the afternoon, depending on the programme, students take part in sports activities, leisure activities, or a cultural excursion. Students are expected to be ready at the designated times.

The first day at the college differs slightly from the regular schedule. Students are advised to arrive at 09:00 to allow time for any unforeseen delays, particularly if they are unfamiliar with local transport routes or timetables. At 09:30, there will be a short welcome and introduction by the Camp Manager and the Principal.

Following the introduction, students will sit an assessment test, which is used to determine their English level and ensure placement in the most appropriate class.

After the assessment, students meet again in the main hall, where a staff member will explain the college rules and provide other essential information. Students are then taken on a guided tour of the college. At the end of the tour, students are allocated to their classes and attend the second morning lesson until lunchtime.

After lunch, students enrolled in the General English programme take part in a familiarisation trip, while students on specialised sports programmes begin their training sessions.

Please note: All students enrolled in the “Play Sport and Learn English” programme must bring their training equipment on the first day.

Students participating in the familiarisation trip usually return to the college by approximately 17:00. For subsequent city-centre excursions, students staying with host families travel directly home and do not return to the college.

Students on the “Play Sport and Learn English” programme normally finish training between 17:00 and 17:30.

Students receive all English course materials and workbooks as part of the programme.

Upon successful completion of the English course, each student is awarded a Certificate of Attendance. The certificate confirms the progress achieved and the level of English attained during the programme.

College/Residential Accommodation

Host Family Accommodation

Read more about:

Boarding schools offer an alternative to the host family option for students who wish to immerse themselves fully in the school experience. Boarding provides a community-oriented way of life and is particularly suited to students who are outgoing, sporty, and adaptable. It offers a comprehensive academic and extracurricular environment designed to help each student develop their full all-round potential.

The ED campus is a self-contained community that gives students a healthy degree of independence and freedom to explore, while maintaining a safe and secure environment. Student well-being is central to our boarding provision. With a generous staff-to-student ratio, we provide 24-hour supervision and care within a happy, well-structured setting. Staff actively foster a friendly, lively, and family-like atmosphere so that students feel comfortable, confident, and supported throughout their stay.

The college accommodates residential students on-site, mainly in comfortable double or triple rooms. All accommodation provided for language school students is of high quality. Bedrooms are located close to modern wash and toilet facilities or include en-suite shower rooms. Each student is provided with a wardrobe, drawers, desk, and chair.

The catering facilities offer a variety of hot and cold meals, along with a wide selection of snacks. The dining area is open before school and during break times, ensuring students have regular access to nutritious food throughout the day.

Students attending programmes with ED normally stay with carefully selected host families. All host families are inspected and approved by our accommodation officers, who maintain regular contact with each family throughout the student’s stay. Families are conveniently located close to the colleges and many have years of experience hosting international students.

Accommodation is provided on a full-board basis, including a packed lunch from Monday to Saturday.

Students usually share a bedroom with another student of a similar age but a different nationality. Wherever possible, and unless specifically requested otherwise, there is only one student of each nationality per family.

Students typically travel to classes each day by public transport, such as bus, DART (suburban train), LUAS (tram), or Tube, depending on the location. Private transfers can also be arranged at an additional cost.

Living with a host family provides students with valuable insight into Irish or British family life. Daily interaction with host families plays a key role in developing language skills and building confidence in real-life communication.

All staff at ED are committed to providing students with the highest standard of education during their stay. We encourage and motivate students to work diligently so they can effectively improve their English language proficiency.
